My name is Neil Kassal. I'm a Storage Area Network and UNIX Administrator, a gadget junkie, and a GNU/Linux advocate. I am a graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering (1999.) I'm also a cancer survivor.


I enjoy travel, rock climbing, hiking, running, bicycling (road and mountain), radio controlled model airplanes, snowboarding and motorcycling (both sport-touring and cruising/touring.)

I live in Phoenix, Arizona in the Cactus/Sweetwater region in the north central part of the city, between Lookout and Shadow Mountain.

I am currently employed by PayPal as a Senior Storage Engineer.

New Happenings

2010/01/22 - Flew to Denver and drove up to Steamboat Springs to join the 2010 "Bruzzapaluzza" Sierra Snowboard event group. Pics are here.

2010/01/09 - Ran in the 2010 Run, Walk, and Roll 10K in Tempe, AZ. Got 60 minutes, 41 seconds. Results are here. Local mirror is here.

2009/12/31 - Road tripped to Cedar City, Utah, for two days of snowboarding at Brian Head Resort. Awesome Utah snow, plenty of sunshine. Pics are here.

2009/12/19 - Vu, Dennis, and I road-tripped to Big Bear Lake, CA for some skiing and snowboarding at Snow Summit in the San Bernardino mountains. Pics are here.

2009/12/04 - Vince, Steve, Larry and I headed to Breckenridge and Copper in Colorado for some skiing and snowboarding. Pics are here.

2009/11/25 - Drove to Durango, Colorado so that I could snowboard at the Wolf Creek Ski Area near Pagosa Springs, Colorado for Thanksgiving and Friday the 27th. Pics are here and here.

2009/10/02 - Flew to Bryce Canyon Airport with Adam Rosenberg in his one hundred sixty horsepower Cherokee 140. Hiked Bryce Canyon National Park, Kodachrome State Park, and the Calf Creek Recreation Area.
